Many of you have agreed to join in the statewide effort to preach on the issue of immigration this Labor Day.  While Judge Bolton's decision to temporarily halt the implementation of SB 1070 has brought important relief, the long-term prospects for comprehensive immigration reform will depend on an informed electorate and a constructive dialogue.  One step in this direction is to reflect upon our tradition and share our denominational teachings on the issue in an open and loving manner.
